Roland Live

Since the advent of amplification and electric musical instruments in the 1930s, the sonic possibilities within the sphere of popular music have grown significantly. Today, electronic musical instruments offer endless possibilities to the most creative music makers, enabling them to produce a wide range of beats, tones, and textures that were unimaginable just a few years ago.

The GRAMMY Museum and Roland, a major innovator in electronic musical instruments, have teamed to create an exciting laboratory of sound called Roland LIVE. We invite you to explore music-making through the eyes and ears of both the performing and recording artist.grammy museum exhibits prudential center

The Raelettes & Ray Charles

The Raelettes were the longtime backup singers for R &B legend Ray Charles. The group’s powerful vocals & stage presence propelled Charles into new levels of commercial and creative success. They can be heard on memorable tunes such as “What’d I Say,” “Night Time Is The Right Time” & “Hit the Road, Jack.” The Raelettes went on to release their own singles on Charles’ record label, Tangerine, that he created in 1965.

The Raelettes’ lineup shifted over time. Original members included Mary Ann Fisher & Margie Hendrix. Fisher was recruited early on by Charles to perform on duets with him, and Hendrix came out of the group the Cookies, which formed in Brooklyn in 1954. Later members included Minnie Riperton, Merry Clayton, Edna Wright, and latter-day Supreme Susaye Greene.
